Look beyond the cliche, reach for the real Japan
Hama-natto from Horin-ji
At first glance, these bits of brownish goodness look like chocolate chips but bite into one and it's most definitely natto. Not the natto you find on top of rice, the stingy stuff with let's just say, a bit of an odor to it, this lets you remember the natto flavor in the back of your mind-slightly salty, slightly miso-flavored-and it's most definitely worth experimenting with. That it goes almost to good with sake is just yet more obstacle.
